Membership & Education

The Membership & Education Subcommittee works to provide meaningful opportunities for restorative justice practitioners and the general public to connect around current and evolving restorative justice topics through bimonthly RJ Cafés. RJ Cafés focus on a specific restorative justice related topic and create space for discussion and co-learning. This subcommittee also facilitates bimonthly “cohort” meetings for restorative justice practitioners who work in programs that offer an alternative to the criminal legal system. Practitioners are invited to share strengths and challenges and learn specific skills to improve their program’s development.

Cameron Hayes chairs the Membership and Education Committee.

community action & advocacy

The Community Action & Advocacy Subcommittee leads RJCO’s legislative advocacy, while also working on community centered actions that seek to engage impacted parties along with all supporters of restorative justice, whether a practitioner or not.

This subcommittee’s legislative work includes passing restorative justice confidentiality legislation in 2023 and securing a total of $12 million for restorative justice programs between 2021 and 2025.

This subcommittee monitors the allocation of this funding through engagement with the Criminal Justice Commission’s Restorative Justice Grant Program.  Additionally, the subcommittee identifies ways to enhance awareness of restorative justice and engagement in the coalition.

Tristen Edwards and Scott Smith chair the Community Action and Advocacy Committee.

Community of Practice (RJ in Education)
